Pioneer unveils UDP-LX500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player

Earlier this year there were suspicions that Pioneer would enter the Ultra HD Blu-ray market and this week the company has unveiled its first Ultra HD Blu-ray player. The Japanese manufacturer comes with the UDP-LX500.

Now Oppo has indicated to stop making Ultra HD Blu-ray players a spot has become available for a competitor. And Pioneer is the first to jump into the gap, although it seems for the time being only for the Japanese market.

On the Japanese website from Pioneer we see the first information and images of the UDP-LX500 to appear. Unfortunately the most important details and specifications are still missing, but the UDP-LX500 is ready. The player will be officially launched in Japan this weekend.

The UDP-LX500 must build on the BDP-LX58, a reference Blu-ray player. The design has already inherited the model and it is expected that the player will also belong to the top in terms of specs. Pioneer used to focus on the premium (and more expensive) segment and since the company will now occupy the place of Oppo, we now also expect premium prices.

It seems that it will not only stay with the UDP-LX500. In the background of the image on the Japanese website of Pioneer we see another device, hidden under a cloth. This may be the UDP-LX800, the successor of the BDP-LX88.
